Inspired by the Squash Blossom necklaces of the Navajo, Hopi, and Zunis of the American Southwest, this necklace uses vintage glass Mali wedding beads hanging from copper wire wrapped YKK zippers. This necklace honors the first African woman Wangari Maathi, from Kenya to win the Nobel Peace Prize for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace. She was the first environmentalist to win the Nobel Peace Prize. An array of green, white, translucent, opaque and striped vintage Mali wedding beads frame a variety of brass beads. The vintage glass Mali wedding beads hang from copper wire wrapped YKK zippers. The intricate brass beads are made by the lost wax method which dates back to 9th Century Nigeria. Necklace is strung on a leather cord.
